Culzeans German Shepherds

Before we bought our first purebred German Shepherd, Hausmekon's Roulette v Zajacz ( Tahoe) we were
owned by a Springer Spaniel name King Arthur. Arthur was a wonderful boy who unfortunately was only with
us for 5 short years due to health problems. But first let me tell you how I fell in love with the German
Shepherd.....I had wanted a German Shepherd since I met my first shepherd in 1974 soon after Mark and I got
married. Simone was rescued by Mark as he was driving home from work. Unfortunately, Simone's medical
problems were very many and she went to the rainbow bridge in a few short months. But she was there long
enough to show us what a German Shepherd is all about. Heart and brains! After her death, it was many years
before we got another one. But the desire to be owned by one never left.  We bought a beautiful Golden
Retriever female named Chelsea from Mark's cousin and under her guidance bred nice quality Goldens for
several years.  Although Golden Retrievers are an excellent family dog, I could never forget the Shepherd and
that is where my heart was.  Chelsea was a great girl and lived with us for 4 years before she went back to live
with her breeder who had lost Chelsea's mother and remained with them as their loyal pet. She continued her
mother's line and produced several obedience champions for them. At this point we were dog free until we
adopted Arthur our Springer Spaniel, which takes us to where our "shepherd" tale begins.......Hausmekon's
Roulette v Zajacz --Tahoe

We have been raising and
doing very limited breeding of German Shepherds since 1995 when we purchased
our first purebred German Shepherd, Tahoe. She was the love of our life. Everyone who met Tahoe was
struck by not only her beauty but her brains and sense of humor. We lost Tahoe th
e summer of 2006 and miss
her everyday. Every day I thank the Lord that he led me to Carla Zajacz and Anja Stroud who sold me Tahoe.
She was a wonderful dog, a wonderful example of a German shepherd. Temperament and structure go hand
in hand with the shepherd. Without one the other is wasted. Breeding and having a great "show" dog is nice,
breeding and having a great working dog is nice, BUT breeding and having a GREAT German Shepherd dog
is the GOAL. There are many breeds that can do any one thing possibly better than a German Shepherd, but
in my opinion there is NO breed that can do as many things as well as a German Shepherd does at any given
time(with one paw tied behind their back :) !).  So to me
, the question isn't "German" vs "American" the
question is... Temperament and structure? One without the other is wasted. Although we do limited litters,
when we do a litter, we feel we do a "quality" litter. The German Shepherd written standard is our goal and
guideline for breeding.

Tahoe produced a wonderful male named Tahoe's Oso Bonanza. We call him Bear. Bear is a big masculine
boy whose temperament and structure rivals his dads: Sierra N Talimar's Bonanza.  Hoss, Bear's father is the
son of CH. Talimar's American Express, ROM.  Bear is, as his mother and father were and are, a wonderful
example of a noble breed.  Tahoe and Hoss also produced a stunning girl who lives in Idaho with Fran Jewel
of Positive Puppy Training.  Giselle, Bears' sister exudes the same structure and temperament as her
relatives. Please use our link to check out all of her accomplishments on Frans' website.

When we bought Brierhill's Sheer Delight, we knew we bought a great pedigree but little did we know that
"DeeDee" would be so much fun to live with. She is smart, funny and more than just a little spoiled!  Her
breeder, Margaret Sherr of Brierhill's Kennel in San Diego California has bred some wonderful dogs such as
CH. Brierhill's Versace, who is a multiple BIS winner and was number one shepherd in the country in 2000.
She also had CH. Covy-Tucker HIll's Storm Brier, ROM and multiple BIS winner.  CH. Brierhill's One and Only,
Amanda, who was listed as number 4 shepherd in 2005,  She also bred CH. Brierhill's  Storm Buddy, and
many more.

DeeDee and Bear have produced a litter of eight wonderful puppies. Oso, Reese and Elsa are Culzean dogs
that are doing quite well in the show ring.  Brierhill's Great Expectations, aka, Emma, has a Best of Breed to
her name.  Emma is a litter mate to Oso, Reese and Elsa. Emma is owned and co-owned by Margaret Sherr
and Dolly Courtail.  Emma now has 1
0 points towards her championship.  Elsa is owned and handled by Gina
Foard of Vlinder German Shepherds.

We picked the name Culzeans because it means "stronghold" in the ancient Gaelic language. It is pronounced
"Cul-lanes".  We believe our shepherds are exactly that:
A Stronghold in Excellence.

We now live in northeast Texas where the pace is slow. The dogs keep us busy and we enjoy every minute of
it. Come  visit us and see how great dogs entertain! Big blue skies and bright starry nights.  Come visit the
